SAGE HILL LEADERSHIP LAB

No gimmicks. Straightforward. Effective.

5 KEY CHALLENGES LEADERS FACE

  1. Leading people is difficult. When you lead people, you also have to encounter their personalities, prejudices, past experiences, family histories, etc. Without really understanding how people tick, it becomes almost impossible to lead them without bullying, raging, bribing, and/or incentivizing them.

  2. Leadership can’t be learned in a book. Most approaches to leadership development are theoretical and isolating. Leaders read books and attend seminars, but these settings don’t give leaders the opportunity to effectively practice and grow their skills. Neither do they provide the necessary accountability to actually implement what they are learning.

  3. Leaders’ lives are overly-compartmentalized. Most leaders’ lives are fragmented. This ends up draining their energy and leaves many leaders in impossible binds between work, family, and themselves.

  4. Leadership is rife with conflict. Knowing when and how to engage in and productively manage conflict is at the core of leadership. An organization is only as healthy as their ability to address and deal with conflict.

  5. The path to leadership is complicated. Often leaders get promoted to positions of authority and influence because they know more (expertise/intellect), work harder (drive), or care more (concern) than others in a specific cause or matter. The problem is that while those attributes can be important aspects of credibility and authority, they do very little to equip people to lead others. In fact they very often get in the way of leadership.

This process changed my life —
not just my business.

INCREASE YOUR LEADERSHIP QUOTIENT

There are four essential characteristics of an exceptional leader that, when integrated, make up the Leadership Quotient (LQ). Like IQ, the leadership quotient is a leader’s capacity for leadership. Unlike IQ, it is not fixed. It can be developed and grown.

The four components of a LQ are:
Expertise:  Knowledge, smarts, brainpower, experience, technical skill.
Drive:  Willpower, motivation, determination, and capacity to achieve success.
Concern:  Desire to do good & not let things fail.
Heart:  Emotional intelligence, relational skills, maturity, insight, self awareness, empathy.

It’s this last dimension, Heart, where leaders often struggle the most. It’s the hardest to define—but it is crucial for being an exceptional leader.
